An extensive two-month cruise circling Australia is being halted following the death of an senior woman who was stranded by the ship on a isolated island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the excursion for a rest. The liner departed without her and went back after some time after the ship staff discovered the lady was missing.

An extensive hunt found her remains the next day.

The child of the victim said that her family was "surprised and grieved that the liner left Lizard Island after an organised outing without my parent".

Via her announcement, she described her mother as an "vigorous 80-year-old" who was a participant of a hiking organization.

"From the little details we have been told, it appears that there was a breakdown of responsibility and common sense," she mentioned.

She added that she wished the examination would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have performed that might have saved Mother's existence".

"We understand from the investigators that it was a very hot period, and mum became unwell on the hill climb," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to head down, alone. Then the boat left, apparently without performing a roll call.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or soon after, mum passed away, by herself."

Company Response

In a statement, the Head verified that the operator was "working closely with officials to assist their investigation".

He said that the firm was "very regretful that this has transpired" and had extended its total backing to the relatives.
