Paceman Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Problems.
'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.
Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the playing area on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.
The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his hamstring immediately following a delivery in his spell on Saturday.
The touring camp stated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time away from the action for further assessment "during the day".
The series decider of the series beginning on 4 January starts this coming Sunday.
The visitors have been without strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on the current trip.
A replacement bowler was brought into the squad to provide backup.
The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.
He was left out of the third Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.
Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, before adding 28 with the bat being one of only three teammates to reach double figures.
After bowling one over late on the first day, he came back the next day and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.
However, at the end of his spell, he bowled a variation to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed at his leg.
The English bowler was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission the previous Test.
