The Showrunner Reveals He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular program coming to an end—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the writers' room reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Fan Response

One could easily to get swayed by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to force fed hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Has the showrunner See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to throw out a good idea for a better idea. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, one could always use the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
