Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Meeting With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their maiden championship series following 1993 by beating the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Down three runs to one, Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh frame, propelling the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 triumph in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the anticipated World Series.

"I'm thrilled for everyone here, our city, our country," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "What an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now hit 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another person anywhere that I want up in that spot other than him with his October magic," remarked Schneider.

Seattle's team, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a championship series.

Manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but commended their performance throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of the series," he remarked.

Toronto claimed the title on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
