Trump Calls Families of Shot National Guard Personnel to the White House
President Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.
He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Devastating Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president informed the press. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Response
Community members came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid public safety in Washington DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the press. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Judicial Actions and Policy Changes
Officials have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy led the Trump administration to halt refugee claims and temporarily stop providing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor the governor said on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to meet with his relatives.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” he addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
